Hudson LM Accountant

The Project

Hudson LM AccountantWe were approached to build a website for a new accountancy practice set up by Louise Hudson back in 2012, and have continued the relationship ever since.

Louise originally wanted a website that was simple and uncluttered as well as modern, and we suggested that she adopt the up and coming mobile responsive design that would allow her site to be viewed as easily on a desktop computer as it can be on a mobile phone or iPad.

What Moghill did

We took the time to understand Louise and her business aims so that we could produce a website that got the basics across without being stuffy in the way some accountancy websites can be.

The website has also help win her business from major clients looking for specialist work.

Makeover in 2017

By 2017, not only had the original site started looking a little old, but Louise’s business had grown into a thriving practice with a full team, so we were called in again to revamp the website.

We worked the existing site into a new, modern design, with updated content, professional photography, a blog, and an email newsletter.

Nearly Wild Camping

Nearly Wild Camping

The Project

Nearly Wild Camping began in 2013 as a Community Interest Company that allows farmers and landowners with basic camping facilities to offer their land to campers.

Since then it has taken off and its website and technology has been at the heart of its success, with major website improvements made in 2017.

The Nearly Wild Camping website allows people to join on an annual subscription, which then gives them access to members-only website content, including a directory of all camp ‘sites’, with the ability to contact owners to make bookings.

Everything from taking membership fees to allowing camp ‘sites’ to add their details is handled by the site, and controlled by Nearly Wild Camping’s administrators.

The project

We were originally invited to bid on the project in a competitive process with other web design companies in 2013.

We used a mobile responsive WordPress design (for ease of use across all devices), and WooCommerce as the basis for the booking and membership systems.

We used a business directory extension to run the camping directory, which will allow camping location owners to add themselves on payment of a fee. The site will also sell co-operative memberships, with members then able to book and pay for their stay at any location through the website.

There’s an option to message the owner of the camping facility and a chance to rate and review where you’ve stayed.

One of the key things about this site was to make it as simple as possible for camping location owners and members, but also the Nearly Wild Camping team as well.

Nearly Wild Camping already had a hosted WordPress.com blog, so we integrated this with their MailChimp newsletter and social media profiles.

The site went in its early form in 2014 and we handed it over and trained their team to manage it.

Allenby Douglas Care services

Simple website with e-newsletter feature

Allenby Douglas Care Services approached us for their first ever website in 2015. Despite trading for many years, they had developed a strong customer base and didn’t feel they needed a website.

They were also concerned a web designer would not get the tone right, but after seeing our other work they liked our stripped-down, simple approach to websites.

We were under strict instructions to avoid cliches such as pictures of old people, and to produce a site that was simple and easy to use, while conveying the company’s caring philosopy and values and maintaining an understated look.

The site was also to link up to the company’s latest Care Quality Commission report and display other official logos. Of course, the site was ideal for WordPress.

We spoke at length with the directors to ensure we understood the business, and decided to feature a photo of a local view on the homepage, to emphasise the company’s links with the Oswestry area.

We’re pleased to say that, despite the concerns, the website we produced was exactly what the Allenby Douglas team wanted and launched with only minor changes.

E-newsletters and security

The website also features e-newsletters, which saves Allenby Douglas time and money in sending out newsletters to clients via email.

And, to keep up with the latest security standards, the website is secured with an SSL Certificate.

As of 2018, the site is no longer maintained by us.

The Oak Furniture Shop, Oswestry and Welshpool

The Oak Furniture Shop, OswestryThe Project

The Oak Furniture Shop opened for business in Oswestry, Shropshire, in 2013 and quickly became a roaring success.

Expansion into a bigger floor area, wider range and a second shop in Welshpool meant that the shop’s original website, which had been put together by a local printer, was no longer up to the job.

Owner Jane Rees contacted us after speaking to several other web designers, and chose us for our plain speaking approach and openness on pricing, as well as our previous work.

Working with Jane, we discussed the business and how to portray it, and were able to produce a new website within four weeks.

As usual, the website was built in WordPress with responsive design for mobile devices, and a new feature for all new websites – SSL encryption.

We created a clean design with an easy-to-use and attractive interface, which helps customers find each shop and find out more about the furniture ranges.

On launch the website began attracting new customers to the already successful shops within days.

Thank you so much for making the whole process so straightforward and  uncomplicated . Having been blinded by techno speak by several other companies it has been a refreshing change to not be patronised due to my lack of technical know how..and also to have things how I want them!

European Railway Atlas

European Railway Atlas

E-Commerce shop for independent publisher with e-newsletter

European Railway Atlas is a niche online shop supplying maps of European railway networks.

Owner Mike Ball began creating the atlas back in the 1980s and over the years saw it grow into a product he could sell online. He set up his own website with a free tool, but after a few years decided it was time for a more professional, integrated website. That’s when he came to us.

We recommended a solution based on WordPress and WooCommerce, with some important customisations, complex worldwide postage rules and PayPal integration.

Customised physical and digital products

The core product was an all Europe atlas, backed by a series of more detailed editions for each country. Customers buying a map would get not only a physical copy of the map, but a PDF digital copy of it for use on phones and other devices.

Digital products can be a minefield and Mike wanted to avoid unauthorised copying and sharing of his digital maps. We were able to set up a system where, on purchase the customer would be sent a download link to the PDF file.

That link would allow the file to be accesed a limited amount of times within a limited period. The digital map was also stamped with the customer’s email address and purchase date, to further discourage copying.

All of this had to be as automated as possible, with everything triggered by a customer buying a product. The shop does everything except for packaging the maps and sending them out!

But it does produce printable invoices and packaging slips.

E-mail marketing and SSL Security

An essential part of any online shop is e-mail marketing and we included this in the project. E-mail marketing is a great way to bring customers back to an online shop again, letting them know about new products and offering discount codes.

Online shops collect a great deal of personal information, and we ensured the site meets the latest security standards, by securing the website with an SSL Certificate.

Ellesmere Hotel

Ellesmere Hotel

Hotel website with news and third party bookings integration with Littlehotelier.com

The Ellesmere Hotel is an historic hotel that has always played an important part in the history and life of the Shropshire town of Ellesmere.

For several years it had been a pub, but its owners decided in 2015 to renovate it and re-open as a hotel serving holidaymakers and business travellers.

The owners came to us through a recommendation and asked us to create a new website for them that helped promote the town of Ellesmere as well as the hotel, and allowed people to enquire about accommodation.

The site features stunning photography from local photographer Sue Austin.

It also had a news section that allows the owners to easily update the site with new events.

The site launched in mid 2016 and we later added bookings integration with Littlehotelier.com.

And, to keep up with the latest security and privacy standards, the website is secured with an SSL Certificate.

Edwards Dairy, Chirk

E-Commerce with Newsletter integration and customer self service

Edwards Dairies deliveries milk, groceries and all kinds of other things to business and residential customers around Oswestry, Chirk and Wrexham.

They originally came to us in 2012 after the designer of their first website decided to leave the business, leaving them with no-one to look after their website.

We started again with a WordPress website that allowed customers to serve themselves through a variety of forms, for example if they wanted to pause their order (if they were going away) or add extra items to their order.

Since then the Edwards Dairies website has evolved. The company is active on Facebook in particular, and we first expanded the website to allow them to publish special offers, and then send them out to customers by e-newsletter.

In 2015 we adapted the site to an online shop using WooCommerce, which allows their customers to select goods and add them to their normal order for delivery.

This meant that we had to ensure only existing customers are able to order or create an account.

The site underwent a re-design early in 2016, and we adapted it to run over SSL.

All these changes were possible by taking the original website we built in 2012 and adapting it several times along the way, turning it into a valued part of the Edwards Dairies business.

As of 2018 the original site has now been integrated into a third party CRM and we no longer host and maintain it.

Web Shop for small publishing house, incorporating a blog with e-newsletter, events calendar and competition facility

Fair Acre Press is a small publishing house based near Oswestry with a strong emphasis on poetry and involvement in the arts.

They approached us with specific requirements for a new website that would allow them to promote and sell their books online, either through the site itself, or by directing though to other websites.

The new site was to incorporate an existing WordPress website and blog, adding new content sections with a blog for each one, and all this was to link up to a new e-newsletter to send to around 700 subscribers.

Fair Acre Press also wanted the website to run competitions, which proved to be the most challenging aspect. Entrants were to upload their poetry to the website, but their poetry had to be submitted directly to the judges anonymously.

The solution was to provide a web form that sent a record to Fair Acre Press, while sending a copy of the poetry to a Dropbox folder, to which the judges had access. This allowed the organisers to match up submissions to names, while the judges had no idea whose work they were judging.

Jo Bregazzi Cosmetic and Medical Permanent Makeup

The client

Jo Bregazzi is a cosmetic and medical permanent makeup specialist based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

As a former nurse and artist, she has a national reputation for her excellent work and receives GP referrals from all over the UK, particularly for scar coverage after surgery or accidents as well as after breast cancer treatment. She also carries out cosmetic tattooing on eyebrows, eyeliner and lips.

The problem

Jo had had a website built for her several years ago in a proprietary content management system developed by the company who built it, but she had never been truly happy with the way it looked or performed.

Being several years old, the website was looking dated, wasn’t mobile responsive and was cluttered with no clear focus on where to go for the information you wanted. It wasn’t great either at displaying photo galleries of her work, and the blogging function was lacking.

It was also difficult for Jo to update and difficult for site visitors to use and the system itself was no longer supported by the company who built it so she had no support in getting around any difficulties she had. She needed something much easier for her to update and the current system was constrained in what she could change.

Bookings

The site simply wasn’t reflecting the quality of her work.

She was also looking to rebrand the business to bring her image up to date and have a recognisable logo and style with which to build her brand.

And finally, she needed it to integrate with her online booking system, Timely, which she used to organise appointments.

How we helped

We consulted with Jo to define what she wanted from her website, which was something clean and fresh, mobile-friendly and modern that integrated with Timely.

We brought in our graphic design and branding partner, Gina at Red Stone Studio and together concluded that, as she had a good name in the industry, she would rebrand from trading as Creative Enhancement, as she had previously, to using her own name.

Rebrand

Previously trading as Creative Enhancement, we suggested that she might like to use her reputation to her advantage and trade under her own name.

Gina created Jo a brand that is modern and fresh, creating variations on her logo and other graphics for social media and printed stationery, such as letterhead and business cards.

We took the brand to create a modern, mobile friendly website. We then used content from her old website to build the site structure and create some starter blog posts for her to build upon.

Easy to update

We repurposed the content to focus on what her clients and site visitors would want to do, making it easy to find the online bookings features and creating image galleries to display examples of her work.

As her clinic is home-based, it was important for clients to be able to easily find her, so we embedded an interactive Google map into her contact page.

As the site is built in WordPress (as is everything we do), we simplified the admin panel she accessed to make available only those features she needs access to and trained her in how to use the system.

And we integrated her booking system into the website so that clients can book a consultation in just a few clicks and without leaving the site.

What happened next

Jo is much happier with both how the website looks and performs on tablets and phones and how much easier the site is to manage. As well as having a fresh new look, it’s much easier to get around.

She is taking bookings through the site and so now her website has become a valuable asset to her business that will continue to grow as her business does.

After just one week of going live, it was showing on page 1 in county-wide Google search results and her Google map pin was top of the list.

Nigel Lewis Construction and Plant Hire

The project

Nigel Lewis Construction and Plant Hire offers both groundworks and construction services, while hiring out contruction and machinery.

The company, which covers the Midlands and Wales from its base near Shrewsbury, had never had a website before, but decided it was time for a website and approached us.

The purpose of the website was to help build a professional impression of the company, advertise its services and bring in new business – and of course build trust.

We worked with Red Stone Studio that borrowed heavily from the colours of MotoGP star Valentino Rossi, of whom company managing director Nigel Lewis is a huge fan.

When it came to the website, we heavily borrowed from Valentino Rossi’s website at the time.

Otherwise the website laid out the company’s services – with a section for advertising plant for sale – with all our usual features:

  • All content written for the client, using supplied pictures
  • Email services
